Shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday night, Virginia State Police issued an Amber Alert for 36-year-old Dana Plummer, 36, in connection to the abduction of Zayir Plummer, 5, Zayin Plummer, 7, and 16-month old Zariyah Plummer.
According to Virginia Beach Police, shortly after 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 14, there was a reported stabbing in Virginia beach in the 900 block of Jay Are Court, where they found a girl and woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Both were rushed to area hospitals and were listed in stable condition on Thursday afternoon.
Investigators say that Dana Plummer, 36, stabbed both victims before taking the three children, leading to the fateful crash.
At around 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 15, the Virginia Beach Police Department was tipped off that the black Honda listed on the Amber Alert was driving in the area, though when Virginia State Police troopers attempted to stop him in the northbound lanes of I-95 in Fairfax County, he took off, fleeing onto I-495 in Maryland, where Plummer lost control and crashed.
He was apprehended at the scene.
All three children were airlifted to the hospital, where Zariyah Plummer died from her injuries.
Charges against Plummer include:
- Two counts of aggravated malicious wounding;
- Three counts of parental abduction;
- Four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor;
- Domestic assault.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones who are grieving this morning,” Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate said. “This is an unimaginable tragedy, and on behalf of the VBPD, I extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this loss.”
